2016 SVRA Vintage Nationals at Circuit of the Americas
Several folks from Space City Panteras attended the SVRA Vintage Championships at Circuit of the Americas.
Here's the group picture! Tom Upton was off helping some other guys, so he missed the picture.
Some other pictures follow!
Yes, we got rained on… Sunday afternoon races were cancelled.
Kirby was on the grid and the heavens opened…. Gray missed his afternoon race, too.
JT explains….
Gray had perhaps the ultimate disappointment Saturday. While leading the 1 hour endure by almost a lap in the Chevron B-16, he hit debris on the track while going off line to pass a Lola. With his radiator punctured, he was forced to retire with 2 and a half minutes left. Thus surrendering the victory, Bell Helmet Trophy and an upscale Zenith watch. Remarkably, the crew repaired the car in time for his next event.
Panteras in attendance acquitted themselves well. The announcer who mechanically read off the names of competitors at the start of each race, uncharacteristically paused after Kirby's name. Then said an extended, "ooooh, Aaaaaah, lets have a moment of silence...a Detomaso Pantera, that's awesome!" then back into methodically reading the remaining drivers names.
Also, there was a small car show hosted by Haggerty's Insurance on the grounds.
JT's yellow Pantera won Best of Class for 1970 to 1989 modified.
